What Makes Awara Special?
We wanted to use only the best materials when making our mattresses. We thought about everything. Being conscious of our impact on the environment, finding new ways to give back to the communities and ecosystems we work with, and creating a mattress you can feel good about buying were really important factors in our decision making process. - New Zealand Farmers
Our partners in New Zealand meticulously care for their sheep, providing us with breathable wool that helps regulate your body temperature, keeping you cool and comfortable throughout the night.
- Sri Lankan Rubber Tree Farmers
We source our premium Forest Stewardship Council and GOLS-certified Dunlop latex from farmers in Sri Lanka. These farmers nurture the rubber trees that produce the latex, which is essential for Awara’s renowned comfort and support.
- Trees for the Future
For every Awara mattress sold, we plant ten trees in Kenya, Senegal, Uganda, or Tanzania through our collaboration with Trees for the Future. This initiative not only aids reforestation but also supports local ecosystems and communities.

So, what are you getting with Birch?
- Birch uses Talalay latexwhich isn’t as durable as the Dunlop latex of the Awara, or as environmentally friendly since it requires extra processing. Awara’s Dunlop Latex is great at contouring to your body as you sleep, and also super durable – giving you the same great sleep, night after night. That’s perfect for alleviating tension and giving relief to aching bones.
- Complex zoning systemThey also use a complex zoning system to provide support. But unhappy customers claim their hips and waist stay on top of the mattress while their shoulders and legs sink in. Not exactly cozy conditions for Dreamland Express. The Awara mattress is built with similar hybrid technology – but without zoning. Our individually wrapped coils work together with our latex layer in order to respond to the shape of your body – whether you sleep on your back, side, or stomach, providing the right support and comfort for all.
Because of how much Awara cares about the planet and sustainability, we’ve made sure that our mattress is Rainforest Alliance certified. Not only do we use organic materials, and source them sustainably, but the Awara mattress directly contributes to protecting forests, improving the livelihoods of farmers and forest communities, promoting their human rights, and helping them mitigate and adapt to the climate crisis. Birch can’t say the same. While their products may also be sustainable and organic, they’re not Rainforest Alliance certified.
